Abstract

A massive volume of unused and expired medicines at home amasses yearly become a source of environmental
hazards and public health problems around the world. because of pharmaceutical over prescription, combined
with overproductionand lack of awareness on appropriate medicine disposal methods.
Therefore, the study was conducted to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of storing medicine and
how to store them in the correct way, and expired medicine disposal among patients
Our data shown there was a statistically significant effect information of patient about risk of storing
expired medication and advice came from reference groupin them knowledge and awareness about
unused and expired medicines, additionally data show there isstrong correlation between advice came from
reference group and information about proper storage conditions, dispose of most types of unused or expired
medicines (both prescription and over the counter) rational drug use and hazards related to the indiscriminate
use of medicines is deficient.
In conclusion, establish a pharmaceutical disposal program, where pharmacies supervised on the collection
of unused/expired medications from the public and the destruction of expired pharmaceuticals that would
yield positive net social benefits in proper disposal of unused/expired medications
