Aims and Objectives: To estimate and compare the Serum Uric Acid levels in Psoriasis Vulgaris patients
and healthy controls and to find out any association between the Serum Uric Acid levels and severity of the
psoriasis vulgaris.
Methodology: Forty patients with clinically diagnosed Psoriasis Vulgaris were taken and assessed for
Serum Uric Acid levels. Forty age, sex and BMI matched controls were taken and findings of both cases and
controls were compared.
Results: Out of 40 cases, the prevalence of hyperuricemia in Psoriasis Vulgaris patients in our study was
17.5% compared to 10% in controls. Increased SUA levels were associated with higher PASI score and
higher BSA involvement. Psoriasis and PASI were found to be independent predictors of hyperuricemia.
Conclusion: Serum uric acid levels offer to be a valuable biomarker in the evaluation of Psoriasis Vulgaris
and its management.
