Acute Head Injury with Pregnancy

Abstract

Introduction: Trauma affects 7-8% of all pregnancies. A multidisciplinary management of pregnant patients with traumatic brain injury is required, The efforts of the Neurosurgeon, Gynaecologist and Anaesthetist/ Intensivist is mandatory. The management is individualized as per the foetal status, gestational age, and maternal injury score. Materials and Method: We studied 8 patients who were operated for severe head injuries with pregnancy. The main aim of the study was to know the outcome of pregnant females and the neonate in head injury. Results: The maternal outcome depends solely on the grade and type of the head injury, the fetal outcome depends upon the age of the pregnancy and maternal GCS. Conclusion: Best management of the maternal and the foetus is achieved with multidisciplinary approach of team. The utmost important is the decision which needs to be taken as early for the low to moderate GCS patients
