Abstract

Background & Objective: Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases that causes other noncommunicable
diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and other complications which are the most common
causes of death in the world. Hypertension in women must get serious attention because it increases over
time and can cause further complications.The prevalence of hypertension in urban areas is greater than in
rural areas. The aim of this study was to find out the risk factors for hypertension in women in rural and
urban areas in Indonesia.
Method: Across sectional study. Women with age ?18 years old were included in this study. The sample of
this study consist of 6.503 women. The strength of the relationship between the independent and dependent
variables in this study can be determined by PR association.
Result: In rural area, the risk factors of hypertension in women are age PR=3,60, obesity PR=2,10, education
PR=2,06, and diabetes mellitus PR=2,64. In urban area, the risk factors of hypertension in women are age
PR=3,69, obesity PR=2,08, education PR=2,15, smoking=1,91 and occupation PR=1,50.
Conclusion: The same variable associated to hypertension in women in rural and urban area are age, obesity
and education.
