Background:Diabetic foot ulcer have affected the lives of patients, families, and other care takers for decades and frequently lead to significant morbidity and mortality. If these silent lesions are left undiagnosed or not treated early, they lead to amputations.
Methods: The aim of this study is to identify the incidence and riskfactors for diabetic foot ulcer leading to lower extremity amputation. Detailed history, examinationandinvestigations were done. Appropriate interventionscarried out. The outcome was analyzedand risk factors for amputation were assessed.
Conclusion: Most patients belong to low socioeconomic class withlate presentation to hospital and advanced disease.Hence amputation rates are higher. Most important preventive measure to reduce amputationwill be to bring the primary disease under control. Timely interventionand early diagnosis are key for reducing mortality and amputation rates.
