Study of Death among Children Below Five Years of Age and its Relation to Parentseducation and Place of Residence Using Verbal Autopsy as a Tool in Deharadun

Around the world more than 10 million children under the age of five die every year and the world poorest countries continue to bear the burden of these deaths 1. Prevalence of under-five mortality vary from 4 to more than 28 deaths per 1000 live births The study was conducted to find out relation in-between child mortality of under-five years of age and parents education along with place of residence using verbal autopsy in Dehradun. Methodology:The survey was done on all the house of the deceased children residing in our field practice areas by visiting their houses. Results:Most of the parents were found illiterate among 83 deaths reported during study period. Conclusion:Many of the under five children deaths can be prevented if parents are literate, which can help in reducing mortality rate among under five children.
