Abstract

Aim: This research is expected to revealed the correlation between urinary osteocalcin and bone density in menopausal women. Method: Descriptive study with case series design, conducted at Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan and Integrated Laboratory of Medical Faculty, University of North Sumatra and Setia Budi Hospital for DEXA Scan measurements in January 2019. The research sample was taken by 21 menopausal women using non-probability sampling with consecutive sampling techniques. Analysis of the correlation of urinary osteocalcin with bone mass density using Pearson correlation. Results: The mean value of urinary osteocalcin in women with normal bone mass density was 6.67 ± 0,53 and the mean value for the osteopenia group was 9.05± 1.30. The results of the Pearson correlation showed a r score -0.803 and p <0.001. In this research shows that the higher level of urinary osteocalcin, the lower the T score. Conclusion: This research shows a significant negative correlation of urinary osteocalcin levels with bone mass density (T score) in menopausal women.
