Abstract

Objective: To study the effectiveness of specific quadriceps modification exercises and MET in postoperative phase I rehabilitation program of surgical fixation of fracture shaft femur: To decrease the pain intensity level, to improve and increase knee ROM and batter quadriceps strength and good quadriceps control of the involved leg.

Background: The purpose of the current study is to describe the outcome of a patient following postoperative femur shaft fracture and evaluation-based rehabilitation, MET, and modified quadriceps exercise approach designed to target these functional deficits during the postoperative phase 1 rehabilitation program.

Design: postoperative day 1 and day of discharge comparative experimental study.

Methodology: 10 subjects aged between 18 to 70 years were divided into two groups A and B (n=5). Following surgery, impairment in ROM, knee extensor strength, and VAS were observed. The subject was given postoperative rehabilitation for 2 weeks. The results obtained post-day 1 and day of discharge test were statistically interpreted.

Results: The result shows that there was a significant effect in both groups, but the current study shows more significant value in the experimental group in a reduction of pain, increased knee flexion supine lying (P≤0.001), and short sitting (P≤0.002), extension (P≤0.01) ROM and batter strength and good quadriceps control

Conclusion: The result suggests that there was a significant improvement in both groups, but the current study suggests that there was a significant improvement in the reduction of pain and increased ROM and quadriceps muscle strength by MET and modified quadriceps than the control group.
